RCS Alumni Travel to Haiti

Back in November nine RCS graduates, now students at The Charles Finney School, devoted most of their Thanksgiving vacation to serving the people of Haiti. Partnering with Finney and Project Compassion, Amber Miller, Ella Myrthil, and Becca Oldham, RCS class of 2014, joined Carissa Gray, Camille Miller, Bailey Oldham, Maddi Peters, Trinity Schabel, and Jake Torrell, RCS class of 2015, on a mission trip to an orphanage in St. Louis du Nord in the northwest part of Haiti. The graduates visited homes in the community and prayed with the families they met and invited the children to VBS where they shared the gospel with over 60 kids. Later that week they shopped along the seaside for groceries they then delivered to those same families. At the orphanage RCS alumni played games, sang songs, made crafts, played sports, and attended church with those who live there—children and teens, the elderly, and children with special needs. The students were housed right at the orphanage with gorgeous views of the spectacularly beautiful Haiti with all its lush vegetation and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean washing up on its shores. Travel was treacherous, food was unfamiliar, electricity was rationed, weather was rainy and muddy, showers were cold--and love was everywhere. Through it all the graduates looked on the experience as a privilege--a privilege to honor God’s commandment and love and serve those they had come all those miles to see--a privilege these RCS grads say they hope to have again next year, too.
